Leucadia
Leucadia is quaint beach town located along the Pacific Coast Hwy in the northwestern section of Encinitas. Settled by Brits in 1865 that apparently had a taste for Greek mythology, the street names reflect Mt. Olympus more than California. There are beaches, shops, restaurants and surf shops strung along the Coast Hwy in a loosely organized town center.
Once the home of acres of avocado trees, flower and plant nurseries continue the areas agricultural heritage. Leucadia has a bucolic feel and is rich in trees and gardens.
Streets are often not curbed and sidewalks are rare even though the fields of plants are slowly giving way to homes--mostly single-family homes on large lots.
