Agent helps
Marine purchase
home across seas
Eric Eaton, a Realtor at Prudential California Realty’s La
Jolla office, recently opened an escrow for MSgt Kelvin
Owens, while Owens was serving in Fallujah, Iraq. Eaton
helped Owens search for his home, advised him on creating
a specific power of attorney for his girlfriend, Kena, and
talked this first-time home buyer through the escrow process.
A mortgage broker who assisted Owens with his finances
referred the Marine to Realtor Eric Eaton. To say it was an
unconventional transaction would be an understatement.
Eaton and Owens communicated via Telephone with an eleven-
and- a- half hour time difference. During one phone call, Owens
had to put his Realtor on hold to verify the sound of enemy fire,
and after a brief pause, the talk of escrow continued.
The unusual correspondence eventually formed a strong bond
between the Marine and his real estate agent. “Communicating
with a combat Marine on Veterans Day was unforgettable
for my kids,” said Eaton, “They were able to take that experi-
ence to school with them and share it with the other children.
What a priceless lesson.”
